Hi, I'm Jessie

& welcome to happier healthier singer!

I am a college student- soon to be graduate- studying music, dance, and theater (aka musical theater) in Northern California where I live with my handsome boyfriend Dante and our (best) cat (ever) Pikachu.

I live in a small community with a surprising amount of theater opportunities either at the university or locally; in fact community theater has served as one of my most unique learning outlets. In the last 4 years I have performed in over 20 productions including Legally Blonde the Musical, Spring Awakening, Dido and Aeneas, Les Miserables, How to Succeed in Business and more. I also dabble in music directing and choreographing as well as the tech side of theater.

So I think it's safe to say- I live musical theater.

I'm originally from Ohio and I started theater in high school after a lifelong career as "living room singer" . My first show was... High School Musical- not even kidding- and despite a somewhat cheesy first experience, I fell in love with musicals- so much that I transferred high schools after my freshman year to attend a better funded school with wonderful theater and music programs. And despite trying to major in Chemistry like the careful voice in my head urged I found myself in 2 choirs and a performance workshop my first semester in college... fate. I quickly changed my major, found a voice teacher, and started auditioning for local theater and fast forward almost 5 years to now.

I love to perform and I just love the way music and dance create this magic that brings even the simplest story to life but even more I love the way theater guides you in finding so many different identities and personalities within yourself. You get this opportunity to make believe in a way that can sometimes feel so authentic and just explore the many corners of the human brain. It is magical to me that I can forget myself when I am on stage playing a character- it is therapeutic and exhilarating at once. It is truly my passion in life.

So I decided to start Happier Healthier Singer as a way to document and share my experience in the world of local amateur theater and maybe help someone find their passion in this crazy art, too.

It's not easy balancing school, work, life, AND theater- sometimes it feels honestly maddening (am I crazy!?). The last five years have taught me a lot about everything from auditioning to rehearsal etiquette to vocal tricks to managing it all and still finding time to be a person so here is where I want to share my love and experiences with those of you who love the mad world that is musical theater.

Outside of blogging and theater, I am a full-time student and I also work as a stage hand for a company called Center Arts in NorCal. Considering the fact that acting doesn't always pay the bills I will be using affiliate marketing, product reviews, and whatever else the magical people of the internet will pay me for ALWAYS keeping in mind that it will relate to HHS and I will always be 100% honest and real with you all.. always.
