National Best Friends Day!

Meet Sarah- my best friend of the last 5 years aka my soul sister.

Today- June 8th- is National Best Friends Day! "Best friend" is a term used to describe those people in your life that are YOUR people. I'm gonna dedicate this entire LONG wonderfully hilarious and sweet post to my best friend of the last 5 years: Sarah!

Sarah and I met some time after I transferred high schools our sophomore year of high school and let's just say we weren't friends. In fact- there was a long point in time where we disliked each other QUITE immensely! Typical catty high school girl drama ensued. To make matters worse, Sarah and I were both apart of our school's theater program and it seemed we were constantly being put up against each other for role after role. Sometimes she would get it, sometimes I would get it- in retrospect our immediate negative relationship was absolutely a result of the fact that we were basically the same person with the same issues with insecurity and envy. Half way through our senior year- the feud had long died down and we were just civil acquaintances- Sarah and I started to hang out with the same group of people and quickly our bond began to form. Soon we were INSEPARABLE and spent literally all of our free time together. Sarah's parents rented her an apartment for the summer (not a normal thing-and quite a long story) and we spent our entire summer after graduation basically living as responsibility free adults. IT. WAS. AWESOME. I had an internship at this chemical lab and I would go to Sarah's apartment every day after work. She would cook dinner and I would take out her trash and we would just hang out. It was magical. Equally as magical as seeing the final HP on opening night together!

Sarah's friendship has taught me so much about how to be a real friend. We have both cried in each other's arms and laughed so hard together that I almost peed my pants and shared every secret and embarrassing story imaginable. I owe her so much more than she knows- and not just for teaching me that I need mascara on my bottom lashes or taking a trip by bus to stay with a guy I liked only to get basically dumped. She has taught me how to share my real self with someone- even the ugly and insane parts. She has taught me that even the most beautiful people (HER) can fail to see their own beauty and worth. She has taught me that loyalty goes a long way and distance actually doesn't change much. She is endlessly supportive and always down to listen to me rant or rave. We can literally sit on our laptops for hours, watching tv and talking and sometimes just sitting in silence together; the only reason we get up is cause I am always demanding coffee. I don't have a sister but Sarah definitely qualifies as my soul sister.

And she is still a huge part of my life despite the fact that she is in Ohio and I am in California- I always split my trip back home 50% her and 50% my dad and hometown- and we talk nearly every day. I bring her up any time someone talks about best friends, makeup, theater, singing, or beauty and when we get to see each other it is like not a day has gone by. A few months ago she surprised me with the news that she is pregnant and getting married and I'm beyond beaming with happiness for her and her future. I mean she is going to be an incredibly loving and supportive mother- because she is such an incredibly loving and supportive friend. I can already see our adult lives unfolding and I look forward to growing old as best friends with my Sarah! Make sure to show your best friend some love today! Happy National Best Friends Day everyone!
